ST Engineering Telematics Wireless has successfully completed the migration of the Kent Smart Street Lighting Network to its next-generation BrightCity Central Management System (CMS) platform, continuing a long-standing partnership with Equans and Kent County Council.
The milestone marks almost 10 years since the original deployment of the Kent smart lighting network in 2016, which has been successfully operated and supported by ST Engineering Telematics Wireless throughout the duration of the contract.
The migration to BrightCity delivers a modern, scalable, and future-ready CMS platform that enables Kent County Council to benefit from the latest smart infrastructure technologies while protecting long-term investment in connected lighting.
BrightCity has been specifically developed to support the evolving requirements of smart cities and connected infrastructure. The platform provides flexible integration across multiple communication technologies and radio topologies, allowing customers to adapt and expand their infrastructure as operational requirements evolve.
As part of the migration, Kent is now utilising ST Engineering Telematics Wireless’ latest NB-IoT connected lighting products, enabling reliable device connectivity in locations that have traditionally been difficult to reach through conventional communication networks.
The BrightCity platform positions Kent County Council to support future smart infrastructure initiatives including:
Solar-powered smart lighting
Traffic-adaptive dimming
Environmental and infrastructure monitoring
Sensor-based smart city applications
Future IoT expansion across public infrastructure
In addition to intelligent street lighting management, BrightCity also supports dedicated applications for Water Resource Management and Smart Water Metering, creating a wider ecosystem for future smart utility deployments.
The successful migration highlights ST Engineering Telematics Wireless’ continued commitment to delivering resilient, scalable, and future-proof smart city solutions in partnership with Equans and Kent County Council.
Kevin Bridge, UK Sales and Operations for ST Engineering Telematics Wireless said:
“We are proud to have supported the Kent Smart Street Lighting Network for almost a decade and to successfully deliver this migration to our BrightCity platform. This project demonstrates how existing smart lighting infrastructure can evolve into a future-ready smart city platform capable of supporting next-generation technologies and wider connected infrastructure applications.”
