Telematics Wireless Chosen to Provide Street Lighting Management Solution

August 24, 2016

August 23, 2016 – Telematics Wireless (Telematics), a leader in smart city control applications, today announced that its smart city technology has been selected to provide a control and monitoring solution for 132,500 street lights in the City of Montreal, Canada.

Telematics’ solution will be delivered as part of a C$28 million contract awarded to Énergère for the supply and installation of an intelligent street lighting management system. The solution will include 7‑pin external Lighting Control Units (LCUs) as well as internal LCUs to manage lighting fixture operations. Énergère intends to deploy multiple smart city networks that will work together to provide comprehensive city-wide coverage.

Énergère selected the T‑Light Pro™ system for its wireless mesh multi-hop network, incorporating self-healing and cognitive radio algorithms. Telematics’ solution enables secure and reliable two-way communication between lighting nodes and the Central Management Software (CMS) via a wireless network using a limited number of gateways.

This energy-efficient solution enables dynamic control of lighting levels and monitors power and energy consumption. Streetlight outages are detected in real time, reducing maintenance costs and enhancing public safety.

In addition to monitoring and controlling streetlights, the T‑Light communications platform will enable the City of Montreal to deploy a wide range of smart city applications, including:

  • Snow sensors to alert public works when streets require clearing

  • Adaptive lighting control (e.g., blinking lights) to support snow removal operations

  • Water metering sensors for meter readings, leakage detection, and sewage overflow monitoring

“What makes this project unique is its ability to integrate solutions from multiple smart city technologies and providers,” said Eddy Kafry, Chief Executive Officer of Telematics Wireless. “Our reputation as a leader in smart city and wireless communications solutions has led to our selection for this large-scale deployment in the City of Montreal.”
